PROPOSAL, MR. MOORE - THE ENDING BSG DESERVED

I had a brainstorm, folks. I know how a tacked-on ending can be created for BSG that seamlessly integrates with the show we got with no loss of integrity. The ending most of us did not like can be jettisoned without asking the audience to ignore it. C'mon, Ron Moore, I'll apologize for all the abuse and criticism I've heaped upon you if you'll work to assemble the creative team and actors for a 6-part miniseries to properly end this great show with the ending it needs. There's been enough time, and your other projects have floundered a bit, so you need a hit. Revisit BSG. You were given a chance once. I'm not looking to get into the business, just to provide the rich, deep and textured ending this wonderful story deserves since I asked that "fifteen-hundred B.C." question at the CineramaDome 6.6.7 event. I've started the process (but not finished) at Battlestar Variant 1 (linked above). The story has lived in my head for years, but part of me does not want to give it away. I've provided the outline to the eps and fleshed out some of them. The transition is the hard part - pulling away from the version out there in the marketplace to the new one. Here's how:

FADE IN:
Ext. Burned out planet (Revelations episode).

CAMERA CRANES DOWN onto the setting as Tigh, Adama, Roslin, D'Anna, Six, Baltar, Lee, Athena, Dualla, Chief, Helo, Kara and others are somber as they sit or mill about - contemplating the ruins of this destroyed planet. CAMERA PUSHES IN and weaves between our characters until

WE PUSH IN on SIX's face. She is in a trance-like state - staring ahead toward the water, her thoughts internal, her eyes looking nowhere.

EX CLOSE on Six, then PUSH IN to her eye, into the iris, blackness

CUT TO

We see a tumultuous whirl of images - a composite of stills and moving images from the remainder of the series as it aired, up to the explosion of the Colony. We hear a VOICE

D'ANNA (OS)
Six. SIX.

CUT TO

Six snaps out of it as D'Anna shakes her a bit by her shoulders. A moment of silence - D'Anna peers as Six's consciousness and focus come back to her.

D'ANNA
Where were you?

SIX
I saw ... I saw ... I don't what I saw

D'ANNA
You've been on your own for quite a while. Maybe it's time
you spent some time on the Base Ship with your sisters and got
your head together. Cavil will be coming, and we've got to sort out
why we all ended up at this burned-out husk of a world and what
we do next.

Six looks over to where Kara sits alone - pensive and sad, immersed in her own contemplation.

SIX
She brought us here for some reason. There is a reason.

D'Anna looks over at Kara.

D'ANNA
That is one messed-up human ... or whatever she is.

UPDATE - BATTLESTAR GALACTICA FAN FICTION

BATTLESTAR: VARIANT 1 is fan fiction which continues the story from where we left off in the Revelations episode and ignores the rest of the terrible Season 4 and the awful ending. [Updated 1-25-10 see below]

After the lame "god did it" angels-on-my-Battlestar close to the series, my version is needed now more than ever. My version is science fiction and I created this for the true fans of the show since I had a sneaking suspicion since the end of Season 2 and the announcement there would be no Season 5 that an alternate would be needed to satisfy the fan disappointment. I apologize for only having 2 1/2 stories done and just the teasers only for the others - you know, work and other commitments ... but I will finish them all for those who want to see how this version turns out.

Not Earth but Centauri. Roslin is the Fifth. Cavil seeks to kill them all. Lord Iblis returns. Good battles evil. The Lords of Kobol are made real. The fleet is torn asunder. The virus which kills the Cylons is pivotal to who makes it to Earth and who doesn't. What the Cylon perception of the repeating cycles of time means. Earth at last, where new 'gods' are born.

Okay, for those of you who like spoilers and can't wait until I finally finish this opus (since I've kinda lost interest in doing the chore of writing out the whole eps) I've layed it out in nutshell form since I've known the whole story since I thought jt up in the mid-season break during Season 4. Highlight from here: Baltar/Lord Iblis rallies supporters among the fleet and breaks up the fleet as Cavil (along with the 4s and 5s in the giant amalgamated Base Ship) closes in. The humans divide, some not believing that there is an Earth and willing to follow one of Lords of Kobol in Iblis. The other LoK remain hidden, not wanting to reveal their identity to the fleet until they reconcile with Cavil and get to Earth. It doesn't work out that way. Cavil becomes aware of Iblis's return and is outraged - there were bitter enemies when they were gods on Kobol. Cavil wants more than ever to exterminate the humans and to consolodate his power among the LoK by killing Iblis. The humans devolve to civil war - vessels fire upon each other, crews split, hand-to-hand combat, many lives and ships are lost - Adama and the good LoK despair. The end is near and lovers embrace when they can for what they fear may be the last time. Adama and Roslin/Diana, Kara and Lee ... Cavil follows the remainder of the battling fleet to the Sol star system (home of Earth) and at the asteroid belt between Mars and Earth the final battle is waged. Those Cylons/LoK who joined with humans in the sexual act have taken protection from the virus so deadly to the cylons. The home of this virus is in the asteroid belt. Cavil's monstrous new huge vessel engages the remainder of the human fleet - the good side, the Adama side allied with the LoK and a wicked fight ensues. Carnage, destruction as the battle drifts deeper into the asteroid field - where the virus kicks in and all the Cylons not protected by having engaged in sex with a human (which transfers anti-bodies that protect them) die. The fight is over, perhaps 1500 humans and just the LoK (one each of the 12 models) survive. In the Galactica and a few other vessels them make their way to Earth and do recon. None of the ships will last long and they must descend to the planet below. They discover Earth around 1500 B.C., the Late Bronze Age, and no evidence of the 13th Tribe can be found ... it is thought they assimilated long ago. Various human populations with distinct cultures are recon'd and the remaining humans descend to Japan, Africa, Europe, North America and all landmasses and major islands on the globe to start life anew. The Lords of Kobol and our major surviving characters choose Crete and Santorini. The Final Hybrid is lain to rest in a pond in what will become England - she becomes the Lady of the Lake and fuses with the nature around her. Adama ends the story with his visit to the Oracle at Delphi, where he hears the words which give meaning to this journey and the story of man and Gods.

ALPHA OMEGA

Synopsis: Not Earth. The burned out husk of a world we left in Revelations is a sad monument to a false start by humanity to create a new world. The 13th Tribe failed on Alpha Centauri Prime. The realization by the humans and Cylons that they are in fact not at Earth inflames simmering mistrust, hatreds and tests alliances. The signal from Kara's Viper grows stronger and a visit to temple ruins portends a momentous event.


EXT. RUINS - DAY - CONTINUOUS FROM 'REVELATIONS'
About 80 people from various Colonial Vipers and transport ships are milling about the gloomy and charred beachfront and ruins. A Cylon Heavy Raider can be seen as well. A mood of despair pervades. ADAMA moves away from ROSLIN, and heads down toward the water's edge - introspective. D'ANNA moves in closer to ROSLIN.

D'ANNA
A fine mess the Thirteenth Tribe made of this world - and all on their own.

Roslin spins around and grabs D'Anna's wrist - pulling it up, staring at her intently.

ROSLIN
What is it with you? Why did you even want to come here!?

D'Anna relents in her hectoring and says thoughtfully ...

D'ANNA
For answers. Just like you.

ROSLIN
And what answers have you found?

D'Anna gently releases herself from Roslin's grip and tears begin to well up in Roslin's eyes and she bursts forth with sobs. D'Anna is taken aback but does her best by contemplating Roslin's pain and puts a hand on her shoulder.

D'ANNA
Roslin. We were brought here for a reason. The divine hand of God is guiding us.

Roslin chokes off a contemptuous sob at that.

D'ANNA (cont.)
On this whole world there isn't one sign of technology or human activity save for that signal being picked up by your pilot's Viper. We need to find it. (a beat) I don't know what you expected to find here. Your hopes are dashed - laid waste by this expanse of radioactive debris. This is the reality at hand. Together or apart, the fates of two peoples will be decided here. We need to find that signal.

D'Anna turns and joins a couple of LEOBENS and three SHARONS who have approached. Together they walk off.

EXT. TEMPLE OF AURORA RUINS - CONTINUOUS
TYROL has ventured off on his own, past the remains of the bridge and he sits against a rock wall - the foundation of a building now in ruins. There are few tiny green plants poking through the base stones and the ground in the area. He looks skyward at the grey clouds above him and shakes his head. He puts his head in his hands and then leans his head back against the wall and closes his eyes. CUT TO:

EXT. RADIOACTIVE BEACH - CONTINUOUS
CAPRICA SIX walks with TIGH, like many others they go off on their own.

TIGH
I hate this.

Caprica Six tries to console him, and embrace him - he stiffens and pulls back.

TIGH (CONTINUED)
No. I don't know where I belong! All this effort to get here for nothing. All the false hopes. And I'm supposed to play apart in some grand plan.

CAPRICA SIX
But you do play a part. An essential part.

TIGH
Then what is it!?

CAPRICA SIX
I know this is hard for you. But you have to take it on faith. I don't have the answers you want. I know that you need love. And God brought you to me to give you that love. And now I am to have your child.

Tight chokes up a bit and falls into Caprica Six's embrace.

TIGH
And what about Baltar?

CAPRICA SIX
Things have grown complicated. I don't know where we stand.

Two more Sixes approach.

SIX #1
We're sorry. We just wanted to meet both of you.

SIX #2
To see the baby.

Tigh is now uncomfortable and steps back, composing himself. The two Sixes look upon him with reverence and to Caprica Six's belly.

TIGH
I'm going to go back -

CAPRICA SIX
(takes his hand) Saul. Don't feel strange. Your life was not a lie. There is a reason the truth was hidden from you for so long. Have faith that it is a good reason. You'll always be loved now.

Tigh is even more uncomfortable now and walks off.

CUT TO:

EXT. LANDING AREA - CONTINUOUS
LEE and KARA walk aimlessly near the vessel landing area.

KARA
I guess I frakked up again (chokes a sob).

LEE
Kara -

KARA
It's a frakking graveyard Lee! It's dead. Dead. (sobbing) Dead.

LEE
You couldn't have known -

KARA
(raging now) I was here Lee! This isn't the Earth I saw - remember.

LEE
What do you remember Kara?

D'ANNA and the SHARONS and LEOBENS walk past, toward their Cylon Heavy Raider. There is a perfunctory acknowledgement back-and-forth. A little bit of sunny sky peeks out from the clouds behind the ships.

KARA
Lee, I stood on Earth. On the Earth we stood on in the Temple of Athena on Kobol. It felt the same. Exactly the same. This doesn't feel - something isn't right.

LEE
Kara (a beat) How can you know? I watched you die. No one could have survived that explosion. No human.

Kara narrows here eyes fierceley at Lee.

LEE (CONT)
But I don't believe you're a Cylon. Yet here you are. It is 'God's plan' as the Cylons and Baltar keep saying? I don't know what to think. A lot of strange things have happened on our way here. But I'm certain you're not the same Kara I watched die.

Kara hauls off and slaps him, pounding on him before he embraces her.

KARA
Then who am I Lee!?!? Who Am I? (sobs) What am I?

CUT TO:

EXT. BEACH AREA - CONTINUOUS
TORY stands with ANDERS, who is essentially trying to freeze her out with his body language. They watch Kara and Lee from afar.

TORY
People aren't handling this well.

ANDERS
How would you expect them to handle it?

TORY
I don't know. I'm surprised at you.

Anders shoots a hard stare.

TORY (CONT)
Why do you feel loyalty to them, knowing what you are?

ANDERS
And why do you feel you're a part of them? You have no experience with them. You have a piece of knowledge you didn't used to have. Yet you switch, like that, and now you're one of them.

TORY
Sam, I think we're all - growing - in our own way. I feel very deeply that I am part of them. I don't fully understand it, but from the time I started hearing that music I started to feel more at home than I ever have living among humans. Don't tell me you don't feel that.

ANDERS
I'm not sure what I feel, (looks around) especially now.

TORY
You've already changed. You know you have. I can see it in your eyes. Your path is growing more clear. Don't be afraid.

Sam looks down the beach to Kara - who now is alone and staring into the cold sea. Tory follows his eyes and sees her too. Lee is farther in the distance, having joined the throng heading back to the ships.

TORY (CONT)
And what about Kara?

ANDERS
I know that I love her. And that's all I have to hang onto right now.

A LEOBEN and a SHARON approach.

TORY
Maybe that's enough.

SHARON
(to Tory) D'Anna asked if you'd come back to the Base Ship.

ANDERS
What for?

LEOBEN
We're going to try to pinpoint that signal. You're welcome too.

ANDERS
Thanks, but no.

Tory rubs Anders' arm and walks off with Leoben and Sharon.
CROSSFADE

INT . TEMPLE OF AURORA - VISION SEQUENCE – CONTINUOUS
TYROL wanders alone in the empty expanse of the stone temple. It is not a large space but has no columns - one expansive room. His POV is blurry, the hall seems mostly empty with the vague outline of a robed figure reclining at the far end. A DISEMBODIED VOICE speaks, but the words are unintelligible - sharply drifting in and out - a man's voice.
CUT TO:

EXT. TEMPLE RUINS - CONTINUOUS
Tyrol wakes from his vision, snapping his eyes open and shut. He hears behind him the sound of ships taking off and stands to see ships leaving the surface and heading into the sky. He runs back to the others.
CROSSFADE

INT. CAVIL BASE STAR
CAVIL, BOOMER, several DORALS, SIMONS, and other CAVILS are at work in the Control Room of the Base Ship. Boomer is interfacing with the computer panel.

BOOMER
It's destroyed. The cell nucleus of the Hub has been obliterated.

CAVIL
Good thing you made it out in time and we found you. We have to assume the worst. D'Anna is awake and with the Twos, Sixes, and the misguided Eights.

CUT TO:
EXT. SPACE - CONTINUOUS
The vast debris field from the destruction the Cylon Resurrection Hub drifts - with many body blanks and body blank parts among the wreckage.
CUT TO:

INT. CAVIL BASE STAR - CONTINUOUS

CAVIL
You see brothers, and sister, what they've done!?!? We're mortal now, like the humans! And the Twos, Eights, and (contemptuous) Sixes have done this to us! WE are destined to live on, not the humans! And because you wished it, I tried to get D’Anna to broker a peace, and according to Boomer, she snapped my neck!

DORAL (at panel)
Our Hybrid detects about eighty of the smaller Resurrection ships still within our overall fleet.

CAVIL
And without the regeneration nucleus of the Hub they're good for a few days? A month?

SIMON
We should combine them - build a new Hub.

DORAL
Their combined regeneration cells won't be enought for another Hub but might be enough to power at least one Resurrection ship indefinitely.

CAVIL
Do it.

BOOMER
At least half are under control of the Two-Six-Eight faction.

CAVIL
Well, we'll have to go get them then, won't we? In the meantime we gather up any bits of that nucleus floating around out there. Bring her in.

Two Centurions bring in an injured Six and force her to her knees.

CAVIL
What can you tell us about the whereabouts of the rebels?

Six shakes her head no.

CAVIL
You'll have to do better than that.

He raises one of the Centurions arms and removes an extended finger - straightens it to a dagger. He circles the Six and plunges it in her shoulder. She screams in agony. Boomer cringes. The Simons and Dorals look to one another but seem okay with it.

CAVIL
Tell me what you know. You were the only Cylon left alive in this whole field of debris. Now that didn't happen by chance.

SIX
I was servicing the lower jump drive. It was blown clear by the blast. It's life-support is self-contained. Please, the radiation is killing me.

Cavil gets another finger and forms it into a dagger.

CAVIL
I've heard your story. Now tell me (he plunges the second dagger-finger into her back) what I want to know!!

The Six falls forward in agony.

CAVIL
There will be no downloading to a new body - there is no functioning Resurrection ship nearby, and no one here will treat your wounds.

SIX
You're mad.

Cavil twists the dagger and Six starts to die.

SIX
Can't you see the error of your ways?

CAVIL
Where are they!?

SIX
God will punish you.

BOOMER
Can't we stop all this killing?

CAVIL
If you don’t have the stomach for it, you can leave.

Boomer leaves the command deck.

CAVIL (cont)
They're the ones who set us on this course for war, with their blasphemous obsession with the Final Five.

SIMON
Our Hybrid has called them 'the Makers.'

Cavil steps on the Six's back and she expires.

CAVIL
Do you really waste your time listening to that gibberish? It does none of us any good to listen to her. We have order! We have a clear hierarchy. Our programming - our lives - exist for one purpose - to fulfill the plan. Ones are for administration, Twos for spiritual guidance, Threes for field generals and tactics, Fours are our scientific and medical experts, Fives for facilitation and implementation, Sixes for infiltration - and stirring up trouble! The Sevens, well, the Seven is a member of the Final Five. And Eights, basically are pleasure models and useful as agents and operatives. Our Hybrids are for transportation and matériel, and Raiders, Heavy Raiders, and Centurions work for us! None of us has the right to exceed our programming!

DORAL
Ten more Base ships, on our side, have just jumped in, and one Resurrection ship.

CAVIL
Get her out of here.

The Centurion missing its two fingers reattaches them then both Centurions gather up the Six and take her body away.

CAVIL (Cont.)
It's time we face up to the unpleasant necessity of cannibalizing our resources. There's no longer a need for as many of us as there are. Order the Base Ships to line up for amalgamation. Who here would like to go first?

The Dorals, Simons and other Cavils react with astonishment.
CROSSFADE

INT. GALACTICA – ATHENA’S QUARTERS
ATHENA is stressed, she is trying to get HERA to eat or drink something, but Hera sits in an all but catatonic state, completely ignoring her mother.

ATHENA
Hera. Hera. You’ve got eat something. Please. At least drink some water.

Athena finally succeeds in getting her to open her mouth a bit and take in a bit of water. Athena then lovingly brushes her hand over Hera’s hair, but Hera is entirely aloof, perhaps even contemptuous.
CUT TO:

INT. GALACTICA – BRIG
HELO and a MARINE escort CAPRICA SIX back to her cell.

HELO
I’m sorry to have to put you back here. It’s a very fluid situation –

CAPRICA SIX
You don’t quite know what to do with me. And I’m “safer” here. I understand.

HELO
If you wish to go the Base Ship, that can be arranged.

CAPRICA SIX
The people I care about are here.

HELO
I understand.

CAPRICA SIX
You more than anyone, probably do.

Caprica Six reaches for her head – as if in pain.
INSERT: OPERA HOUSE DREAM SEQUENCE
SIX leans down to get face-to-face with HERA outside the theatre doors. Six POV as Hera seems to mouth some words that cannot quite be heard. END INSERT

HELO
Are you all right?

CAPRICA SIX (catching her breath)
Yes. Yes, I think so. I’m going to lie down.

Helo and the Marine exit.
CUT TO:

INT. GALACTICA C&C - LATER
ADAMA enters, followed by DUALLA and a couple of other C&C personnel, to a somber room.

ADAMA
I take it you've all heard.

GAETA
Admiral -

Gaeta has a bit of trouble getting himself over to the display table but does it and spreads around some film sheets/star charts.

ADAMA
What have you got?

GAETA
Admiral, I'm not sure we're in the right system.

ADAMA (floored)
What? (a beat) I told you to take your time.

GAETA
I did, sir. That signal - that Starbuck's Viper is picking up - it is coming from the planet surface we're orbiting - although we can't seem to get a precise fix on it. But this is a double-sun system. That yellow-red beta sun isn't mentioned in the Prophecy of Pythia. This system has over twenty planets and the data show that ... four could sustain human life. The Pythia prophecy says, (he now picks up a Colonial Bible) "Only one habitable planet surrounds a single yellow star that became home to the Thirteenth Tribe."

ADAMA
Mr. Hoshi, get me the Base Ship. If D'Anna is back from the surface, I want to speak with her. And where is President Roslin? And where is my son?
CUT TO:

INT. REBEL BASE SHIP - CONTINUOUS
D'ANNA and TORY and TWO CENTURIONS carrying a sedated ROSLIN on a gurney panel, followed by SHARONS, SIXES and LEOBENS. At the entrance to the Command Center D'Anna waves them away.

D'ANNA
Make sure our guest is made comfortable.

INT. REBEL BASE SHIP COMMAND CENTER - CONTINUOUS
D'ANNA, TORY and a SIX, a SHARON and a LEOBEN enter and gather around, with other Sixes, Sharons, Leobens manning consoles.

TORY
That's not going to go over well with Adama.

D'ANNA
Insurance.

SHARON
How did you get her?

D'ANNA
Carefully. There were a lot of upset and distracted people down there. She's sedated now, but she'll wake soon. She's had a quite a shock. Sleep will do her good. Let me know when she's awake. Six, what's the status of our reconnaissance Raiders? Has there been any sign of Cavil?

A Six already in the Command Center, wearing white, answers.

COMMAND CENTER SIX
Of the ten Raiders we've sent out, eight have reported in. No sightings of the Cavil forces. The last two are due soon - one of which was going to check on the Resurrection Hub debris for survivors -

D'ANNA
I gave no such order. Do you want to lead them right back to us!?

SIX
You're not the only one giving orders here -

D'ANNA
Yes, Six, I am. We're going down this path together because of what I know. Only I know who the Fifth is and meaning of the Final Five. (to Tory) Even you don’t know.

Tory sheepishly purses her lips.

D’ANNA (Cont.)
Send another raider to meet the scout at an intermediate jump point and order them both to self-destruct. We can't have them leading Cavil right to us and they’ll understand that. Have faith, brothers and sisters in what I know. You three come with me. Let's go see how this Hybrid's doing healing this damaged ship.

COMMAND CENTER SIX
Adama is on the line from Galactica. He's asking for you.

D'ANNA
Tell him I'll contact him shortly. End the transmission.

The Sharon, Six and Leoben who had accompanied to the surface her go with her.
CUT TO:

INT. GALACTICA C & C - CONTINUOUS
Adama is looking up to listen to the comlink. DUALLA puts her headset down.

DUALLA
Message is: 'Will get back to you shortly.' Transmission cuts out after that.

Adama furrows his brow and purses his lips in frustration.
CROSSFADE


EXT. RADIOACTIVE BEACH - AFTERNOON
More sun filters through the grey clouds as sunset approaches . The dimmer beta sun is visible as a blur within the clouds higher up. Just one transport vessel remains in the distance as BALTAR stares out at the setting sun across the water. Barely audible in the distance are the transport personnel motioning for everyone to get aboard. A handful of people farther out than Baltar are heading in. HEAD SIX appears and rubs her finger along Baltar's shoulders, then along his face as she steps around to face him as he tries to ignore her.

HEAD SIX
They'll leave you here in a heartbeat if you don't get moving. I see they didn't let any of your groupies come down here with this first, and maybe last, landing party. Ignoring me won't do you any good.

BALTAR
What do you want?

HEAD SIX
Don't you feel it Gaius?

BALTAR
Feel what? The radiation that permeates this place? The gaping wound that nearly killed me on the Base Ship? And where were you for that? An 'Angel' sent to protect me.

HEAD SIX
To guide you.

BALTAR
To what!? Guide me to what?

A couple of Colonial personnel walk past a bit perplexed at Baltar - who appears to be talking to himself.

HEAD SIX
To know God.

Baltar exhales an exhausted sigh.

BALTAR
And I suppose God exists in that sunset? And in the radioactivity here in this sand?

HEAD SIX
God exists in everything. You know that already. By coming here, yet get closer to God. You'll learn something here.

Baltar looks up to her, frustrated to point of tears.

HEAD SIX (CONT.)
You'd better get going. Looks like you're the last.

Baltar looks to the last transport and then back to Head Six - who is gone.
CROSSFADE


INT. GALACTICA CONFERENCE ROOM – EVENING
LEE sits with TIGH, ANDERS, TYROL to one side and ADAMA, HELO and KARA on the other. He has the religious book of the Colonies before him and it is open to the drawing of the Temple of Aurora.

LEE
And you think this building - or wall of a building is the Temple of Aurora?

TYROL
Or a temple to another member of the Temple of Five maybe. It was as if that man was trying to tell me something - something that reminded me of my childhood. That I was there for a reason. It was an even stronger feeling than I had on the algae planet. Once my head touched that stone it was as if I was in the temple. I lost all sense of time.

ADAMA
And you think that all of you going there together, you'll be able to decipher what the vision means? You know I think I've had my fill of these visions.

DUALLA enters and passes a note to Lee, who reads it and passes it to Adama.

ADAMA
I knew it. I should never have left her alone.

LEE
D'Anna still has Roslin - on the Base ship. Thank you, Dee.

Dualla exits.

ANDERS
Why?

ADAMA
I wish I knew. (stands) I'll stand by whatever decision you make Lee.

Adama exits the room. Lee looks after him, concerned.

LEE POV as he sees Adama, just outside the doorway, huddling with a couple of Colonial Marines who are standing guard there. The Marines look into the room then back at Adama. Adama walks off and the Marines close the door again.

LEE
We came here in good faith. And now D'Anna is holding Roslin again.

TIGH
She must want her for leverage. Maybe they know too that this isn’t Earth.

LEE
You know?

TIGH
Bad news travels fast.

TYROL
She covets. I think she believes Roslin's the Fifth.

Kara reacts with astonishment.

KARA
What?

TYROL
I'm sure you think it's you. That would play to your ego wouldn’t it? Did you hear that music we heard?

GAETA enters and all pay attention as he begins reading from a note.

GAETA
The signal has changed. The beam Kara’s Viper is picking up has tightened and focused - not far from where the landing party set down earlier - near the bridge.

LEE
That Viper led us to this planet. Not Earth, but here. Why?

Gaeta hands the note to Lee and Kara quickly snatches it away, standing to read it. The news makes them all stand.
CUT TO:

INT. REBEL BASE SHIP - HYBRID CHAMBER - CONTINUOUS
ROSLIN is kneeling beside the Hybrid, who is ignoring her. D'ANNA, a LEOBEN, a SIX and a SHARON, and TORY also are present.

HYBRID
The pressure seals in arm regrowth are sound. Arm regrowth extended. Central core processors upgraded. New material assimilated. Maximum rotation. Centrifugal forces extended. Time variance and looped through ... data mining .... correlating ... Pressure seals in regrowth are sound - two new chambers prepared ... data collection ... correlating ... Decks all clear of foreign bodies, cleansing complete ... life support backup program tied in, new links are braided … new data ... assimilated ... new data ... correlating ...

ROSLIN
How long do you want me to stay here?

D'ANNA
She said something before when I came to see her. About you. At least I think it was about you. 'And the final Maker sees, as reflection, the dying leader ...'

ROSLIN
'Maker?' She speaks in metaphor - how can you be sure? Look, I'm tired from whatever you drugged me with, I want to go back now. Why are you holding me? What is the point? We’re at Earth.

D’ANNA
No, Madame President, in fact, we are not. This Eight pointed out that the Prophecy of Pythia names a planet which circles around a single yellow sun. This is a dual-star system. Two suns.

Roslin’s jaw drops.

ROSLIN
How could we - ?

D’ANNA
Yes, how could we have missed it? Because the signal from that Viper led us here. It seems in our collective haste we ignored a vital fact. I’m sure by now Galactica has figured it out.

ROSLIN
I want to speak with the Galactica.

HYBRID
Hold ... hold ... (screams) ... Sisters and brothers are being eaten ... multitudes combining ... blasphemy! A horrible SOUND emanates throughout the ship and the lights flicker and the Hybrid siezures and then falls into a catatonic state - still slightly twitching. Tory collapses. All seem stunned. Other Sixes and Leobens rush into the room.

D'ANNA
Take her.

A Leoben and a Six carry Tory out.

LEOBEN
'Sisters and brothers being eaten'

SIX
You don't think -

D'ANNA
What else can it mean?

ROSLIN
What? What's happened?

D'ANNA
The Cavil forces are cannibalizing the Cylon fleet - harvesting resources. They mean to hunt us down and kill us - human, Cylon - all of us.

SHARON
Cavil has gone mad.

D'ANNA
And one of you Eights is with him.

Another SIX enters the Hybrid chamber.

SIX #2
The president of the Colonies says the signal has resolved. They’ve pinpointed its location. They’ll share the information if we return Roslin.

D'Anna turns and abruptly leaves, followed by the others except Roslin. Roslin is left alone with the Hybrid, which is clearly in pain and still twitching slightly. Roslin feels compassion for its suffering and moves in closer and tentatively reaches out her hand, gently stroking the Hybrid's face. She reaches her other hand into the liquid and takes the Hybrid's hand and sits there with her. Almost immediately the lights become more subdued - still flickering and out-of-whack - but much less so. The Hybrid slowly opens its eyes and a faint, peaceful smile forms.

HYBRID
And the Fifth shall find its brethren and I shall be lain into the waters of the promised land.

Roslin is unnerved by this and releases the Hybrid's hand and the Hybrid again goes unconscious.

INT. VIPER/LAUNCH TUBE - CONTINUOUS
KARA is aiming her special Viper down a launch tube.

KARA
Open the frakking tube door or I'll blow it the frak off!

TUBE LAUNCH OPERATOR (VO)
You know I can't do that CAG. You're not cleared, and that Viper especially is not cleared.

KARA
Fine, have it your way.

Kara starts firing.

INT. VIPER LAUNCH CONTROL ROOM - CONTINUOUS
The Operator is frantic, immediately slamming down a large button.
INSERT: Outer launch tube door opens on the Galactica exterior - we see some small artillery fire coming out. END INSERT

KARA (VO)
Frakkin' launch me godsdammit!

The tube Operator hits another large button and Kara's Viper is launched down the tube. CUT TO:

EXT. SPACE / GALACTICA - CONTINUOUS - Kara's Viper emerges and sharply turns downward toward the planet below.

HELO listens as the com broadcasts the voice of the tube Operator.

I had to let her go - she was shooting artillery in the launch tube.

HELO
Understood. Get a damage repair crew on it.

A SHARON is interfacing with the main panels. D'ANNA, SHARONS, SIXES, and LEOBENS are present, as is ROSLIN. The lights still flicker a bit from the Hybrid's earlier freak-out.

SHARON
A Viper has launched from the Galactica. I'm also detecting weapons fire.

D'ANNA
Is it coming here?

SHARON
It's going to the planet surface.

SIX
It's that Viper.

D'ANNA
Track it. Ready a Heavy Raider. Madame President I think you should join us. That Viper led us to this planet for some reason. I think you should know.

SHARON
Message from Adama –

D'Anna nods for her to put it on the comlink.

ADAMA (VO)
Base ship, this is Adama , is President Roslin with you?

D'ANNA
Yes. (nods to Roslin)

ROSLIN
I'm here Bill.

D'ANNA (to Six)
Go wake Tory.

A Six exits the Command Center.

ADAMA (VO)
President Roslin, are you in need of assistance?

Roslin looks to D'Anna.

ROSLIN
That remains to be seen.

D'ANNA
President Roslin is our guest here.

SHARON
A Colonial Raptor has launched.

D'ANNA
Is that you in the Raptor?

ADAMA (VO)
Yes.

D'ANNA
Why is that Viper going to the surface?

SHARON
The Raider is also heading for the surface.

ADAMA (VO)
Something's changed in that signal. You should know I have three of the Four with me.

INT. COLONIAL RAIDER – CONTINUOUS
ADAMA pilots, TIGH sits as co-pilot, and ANDERS, and TYROL ride in the back. Two COLONIAL MARINES are crowded in also and have weapons at the ready.

D'ANNA (VO)
We'll meet you on the surface. Same location?

ADAMA
Negative.

INT. REBEL BASE SHIP COMMAND CENTER - CONTINUOUS
TORY walks in and joins the others.

D'ANNA
We have a right to know what you know.

ADAMA (VO)
Negative. You gave up that right when you abrogated your agreement with us and decided to hold the President against her will for a second time.

D'ANNA
Admiral Adama, it is important that President Roslin, Laura, have a chance to talk more with the Hybrid - we believe she can help us find answers. We will return her to you presently - on the surface.

ADAMA
Negative. We will send a Raider to retrieve her. One will be there soon.

SIX
Kara's Viper has landed. In an area beyond the bridge ruins.

ROSLIN
Bill, they're going down to the surface too. I'll go with them and see you there.

LEE (VO)
This is Galactica Actual, President Lee Adama speaking, D'Anna, you and your people need to know something.

ADAMA (VO)
Lee don't.

LEE speaks into the microphone unit.

LEE (CONT.)
This isn't Earth. We're at the wrong planet.

D'ANNA – We had figured that out for ourselves. Why we were led to this planet is the question at hand.

LEE
The signal from Kara's Viper led us here. We all got caught up in the signal instead of where we are. The signal from the Viper has narrowed and grown more intense and Kara's gone, without authorization, to see why. We should stick to our original agreement and go together.

ADAMA (VO)
They've proven they cannot be trusted Lee.

INT. REBEL BASE SHIP COMMAND CENTER - CONTINUOUS

LEE (VO)
Do you agree to return President Roslin and not attempt to abduct her or any more of our people?

D'ANNA looks to Roslin and to the others.

D'ANNA
Agreed. Why don't you bring your Raider on board, Admiral, and you can collect her.
CUT TO:

INT. COLONIAL RAIDER
Tigh looks to Adama and nods and emphatic 'no.' Adama swings around to look behind him and both Anders and Tyrol seem reluctant.
CROSSCUT BACK-AND-FORTH

ADAMA
I have no intention of delivering to you three of your precious Final Four Cylons. I will remain in orbit until you launch your Heavy Raider with President Roslin aboard. I am arming the self-destruct mechanism of this vessel ...

Adama arms the unit, causing fear in Tigh and Anders and worry in the Colonial Marines - Tyrol is bemused, slumped in his corner.

D'ANNA
There is no need for a game of brinkmanship, Admiral.

ADAMA
Unless it’s on your terms. Then get this clear on your side. So long as we remain working together, there will be no more abductions of abuse of our people, understood?

D'ANNA
Understood.

LEE (VO)
Transmitting coordinates of Kara's Viper to Base ship now. We'll see you down there.
CUT TO:

EXT. SPACE - CONTINUOUS
The Raider has shut off engines and sits in orbit, in-between the massive Base Ship and the Galactica.

LEE (VO)
Bring Tory.

D’ANNA (VO)
And you bring Caprica Six.
CUT TO:

INT. COLONIAL RAIDER - CONTINUOUS

TIGH
That son of yours has grown quite a set of cohones on him.

ADAMA
Yes, he has.

TIGH (looks to self-destruct indicator)
Are you going to do it?

ADAMA
Only if I have to.

TIGH
Maybe you should.

ADAMA
What the hell are saying?

TIGH
Bill, I know you think I betrayed you - betrayed everybody. But I tell you I didn't know! You've got to believe me. My whole life is lie! False! Everything I believe, everything I fought for and lived for has been ripped from me. I don't know that I want to go on, that any of us should.

TYROL
Speak for yourself.

ANDERS
I don't want to die. I fought so hard to live on Caprica, and saw so many people I cared about die. It has to be for some reason. I need to know.

TIGH
Bill, I don't understand all this religious mumbo jumbo and why a guy like me would be put in the middle of it –

TYROL
To be the butt of a joke.

TIGH
What did you say?

TYROL
To be the butt of joke. That's what we are. (cynical laughter) Do you really think we're all that important? Why us? A grease-monkey, a pretty-boy jock, and a sour old alcoholic. What have we got to offer? We were probably chosen at random by whoever is playing this CRUEL JOKE (pounds fist against hull) on us! He's right. You should kill us. Kill us all. And we can steal the punch line from whomever or whatever is playing this joke on all of us.

ADAMA
No. If they return Roslin I'll turn off the self-destruct. The human beings that remain alive after what was done to us deserve an answer. We deserve to know why billions of people had to die. We deserve to know why! (slams fist) And if you three, or any one of you, can help find that answer, then I'll not lift a finger against you - nor defy my son's amnesty he granted you. Once Roslin is safe.

ROSLIN (VO)
Bill?

ADAMA
I'm here Laura.

ROSLIN (VO)
We're on a Heavy Raider, on our way to the planet surface. I'll see you there.

ADAMA
I see your vessel leaving the Base Ship.

ROSLIN (VO)
Don't harm them Bill. We need them.

ADAMA
I know.

He shuts off the self-destruct and its indicator light goes out. We see through the front windows of the Raider the Cylon Heavy Raider from the Base Ship as it descends toward the planet below. Adama fires up his ship and they follow.
CROSSFADE

EXT. PLANET SURFACE - CLEARING BEYOND BRIDGE – NIGHT
It is a dark, partly-cloudy night with the dim glow of two moons reflecting some light onto the ground. Kara is frantically looking around the area past where she parked her Viper and something catches her eye and she descends down a small gulley out-of-view from her landing area.
CUT TO:

EXT. PLANET SURFACE – GULLEY – CONTINUOUS
In the gulley she finds piles of debris, from buildings, decayed plant matter and a severely damaged Colonial Viper. Her Viper, smashed to bits. She gasps and focuses intently in the semi-darkness to be sure of what she is seeing. She picks up bits of the Viper and finds a piece of the nameplate with "Ka" on it. Digging through the cockpit section - a part of which remains intact - she finds the Colonial Distress Beacon and lets out a sob. Beyond the wreckage something else catches her eye and she sees another form and walks toward it. Waves of fear wash over her but she presses on. She approaches slowly and leans down - horror washes over her face and then she goes emotionally numb. Kara stares at her own broken, long-dead body - bloated and discolored but clearly her. She raises her hands to cover her mouth but it is a silent scream. Above her she sees and hears the landing approaches of a Cylon Heavy Raider and the Colonial Raider - but farther back where the original landing area had been during daylight hours. Kara starts to compose herself - she knows she has a little time. She wipes her tears and urgently begins covering the body with whatever debris is at hand, and then tries to cover the Viper debris as well, even scraping loose dirt from the wall of the gulley so it falls upon the debris. She then hurriedly heads back up the gulley to head off anyone trying to come down.
CUT TO:

EXT. PLANET SURFACE - RUINS - NIGHT – LATER
ADAMA has his arm around ROSLIN and everyone in the landing party is bundled up for the cold. TYROL leads them through the narrow passage between debris piles with ANDERS, TIGH, D'ANNA right behind him, and a LEOBEN, SHARON and SIX following. The two Colonial Marines from the Raptor and Adama and Roslin bring up the rear. A VOICE hollers out, it is LEE. Adama and Roslin slow to let him join them. With Lee is TOM ZAREK, BALTAR, CAPRICA SIX and two more Colonial Marines. Adama and Roslin look none to pleased to see Zarek and Baltar. After meeting up they continue to walk. Caprica Six works her way up to walk behind Tigh.

LEE
Good to see you're okay Madame President.

ROSLIN
Good to see you too Mr. President.

LEE (about the Marines)
They're here to make sure you return with us this time.

ADAMA
Probably a good idea.

ROSLIN
Why exactly are you here, Dr. Baltar?

BALTAR
It was President Adama's idea - since I've had visions too.

The irony is not lost on Zarek standing among three people who were or are called 'president.'

ZAREK
The president asked the Quorum to elect a representative to be here and report back on what we find. The people have a right to know.

Lee and Roslin look to one another.

ROSLIN
Yes they do, Mr. Zarek, yes they do. We're trying to find Kara Thrace - she brought that Viper down here and Admiral Adama tells me that one of the Final Five Cylons had a vision down here. We're going to try to get answers why we were led to the wrong planet. They've told you this isn't Earth, yes?

ZAREK
Yes, I've been told. And you should know, you all should know, there is near panic at this news within the fleet. We've cast our lot with these Cylons and have only disappointment to show for it so far.

ROSLIN
Panic?

ZAREK
We’ve asked an awful lot from the people to get to this point. They were told this is Earth.

ROSLIN
We all thought this was Earth. They need to hold on. We’ll get what answers we can from here and move on.

ZAREK
I just thought you should know that many are at the breaking point.

ROSLIN
Well, then I appreciate you telling me that.

The group continues to walk. Baltar hangs back and is distracted and finds himself looking at HEAD SIX, who matches his cadence. He thinks he sees a slight glow about her.

HEAD SIX
What is it Gaius?

BALTAR
You seem to have this - glow - about you.

HEAD SIX
Something in the moonlight perhaps.

Baltar looks up to the sky - which has opened up a bit from the clouds and 3 moons are visible - dull and muted, one is a brighter crescent. He looks back to Head Six.

BALTAR
And what brings you out, the night air? I’ve never seen you before when Caprica is around.

HEAD SIX (CONT.)
She and I will get to know one-another very soon. A great truth is going to be revealed tonight Gaius. God's grand design will become much more clear. And it couldn't happen without you.

BALTAR
And I don't suppose it could've been revealed, say, this afternoon, when we were all here earlier - as opposed to the dead of night?

A couple Colonial Marines taking up the rear watch Baltar appear to talk to himself which he notices and he becomes self-conscious.

HEAD SIX
No. Now is the time. You'll see.
CUT TO:

EXT. RUINS - NIGHT - CONTINUOUS
From the other direction KARA shouts out, heading back toward the ruins and the landing party from the clearing where she landed.

KARA
I found it! I found it.

Kara meets up with Tyrol, D'Anna, Tigh, Anders, Six, Sharon, Leoben who stop to greet her. Adama, Roslin, Lee, Baltar and the Marines soon catch up.

KARA (CONT.)
The signal. It was sent from this.

She shows them the beat-up beacon.

D'ANNA
Where was it?

ADAMA
Yes, where?

KARA
In those ruins just back there (a lie).

TYROL
That's about where I had that vision. Right over there.

ADAMA
Let me see that.

Adama takes it from Kara and a Marine shines a flashlight on it. Lee joins to look it over closely.

ADAMA (CONT.)
A Colonial Emergency Locator Beacon (he rubs grime off the back of it) - with its manufacturer’s ID code still mostly visible.

KARA
Manufacturer’s ID code?

D'Anna detects the worry in Kara's voice and peers at her.

ADAMA
11091 (looks to Lee)

LEE
Galactica.

ROSLIN
What does it mean?

ADAMA
This is from a Viper commissioned to the Galactica – thirty years ago. Each Beacon is assigned to a specific vehicle. This code is for Vipers assigned to Galactica class vessels, and the 091 is Galactica's specific code – designated by the manufacturer. It's from your Viper isn't it Kara?

Kara is mortified.

KARA
What?

D'ANNA
Well this is interesting.

ADAMA
Kara, is there something you want to tell us?

A hushed silence falls over the group. Kara starts to break down. Overhead the sky CRACKLES with static electricity and PURPLE ARC of light streaks across.

KARA
I am not a Cylon! (sobs) You've got to believe me. I don't understand this and why it's here, but I'm Kara Thrace! Lee!

D'ANNA
I don't know what you are, but you're not one of us.

Anders and Leoben are sensitive to her pain and move in to comfort her, she rejects them and falls into Lee's arms, hysterical.

KARA
Lee! It's me! You know me. Kara! We made love on New Caprica! How could I know that - only we know that - if it wasn't me?!

Tyrol has seen enough and moves on, Sharon and Six and then D'Anna follow him. The rest start to move to. Lee comforts Kara.

LEE
Kara, you're different. But it doesn't mean I don't still love you.
Lee moves on, Anders comes to Kara, the two of them left alone as the rest of the group has moved to the temple area.

ANDERS
Kara ... Kara ...

Kara cringes. He moves in and rubs her shoulder and back and after initially resisting him, she allows him to embrace her. She sobs.

ANDERS (Cont.)
A lot has happened to all of us, Kara. And there's still more to come. I wish I understood it, but I don't. The only thing - the only thing - I'm certain of, is that I care about you. She extricates herself from him and walks on into the dark.
CROSSFADE


EXT. TEMPLE OF AURORA RUINS - NIGHT – LATER
TYROL stands on the section of stone floor that remains above the remnants of the foundation wall. The sky has mostly cleared now, revealing a sea of stars and now four moons, and in the distance a faint hint of reddish glow from the soon-to-rise beta sun. Adama motions for a couple of the Marines to move on past the temple and look around. Kara notices this and reacts with anxiety.

TYROL
Up here.

His voice seems to echo – which seems eerie and all notice. Tyrol leans down to help pull up Lee, and they together help the others onto the raised stone floor of the temple remains. We see from overhead the figures of Adama, Roslin, Baltar, Six, D'Anna, Tyrol, Anders, Leoben, Sharon, Tigh, Tory and Kara standing on the temple floor. The faintest outline of a symbol can be seen. The Marines remain below.

ADAMA
This is where you had your vision?

TYROL
Actually it was down there, I was leaning my head against one of the foundation stones. It's over there that I saw a person –

As Tyrol speaks his VOICE takes on a faraway cutting-in-and-out quality as if there is a sonic dead zone. Then a wave of nausea overtakes most and they cry out and clutch their abdomens and begin to jump down from the temple onto the ground below - until it appears just five of them are standing there in the moonlight looking down upon the others. Those who've jumped down are much better now that they stand outside the temple. A wave of realization hits them. The others look up again and scan the faces: Tigh, Tory, Anders, Tyrol ... and


... Laura Roslin.


There are audible gasps.

Then Caprica Six and Baltar step forward from behind the others.

EXT. TEMPLE OF AURORA - MIDNIGHT
CAPRICA SIX, BALTAR, ROSLIN, TIGH, TORY, ANDERS, and TYROL stand upon the stone floor of what remains of the temple, a faint stencil of a design in gold barely visible beneath their feet. There is shock and confusion on their faces, as well as on the faces of those down below on the ground near the temple foundation wall looking up at the eight people higher up. ADAMA, LEE, ZAREK, KARA, LEOBEN,
SHARON, D'ANNA and the Colonial Marine contingent seem dumbstruck.

ROSLIN
What is that sound? Do you hear it?

A distant ECHOING DISEMBODIED VOICE seems to hum a hypnotic note and all on the temple floor seem to hear it and react. No one down below seems to hear it.

ADAMA POV as he looks up at Roslin - who is looking back at him, both of whom seem bewildered. Suddenly he notices that she seems to be fading from view slowly from bottom to top. Light in the sky above grows brighter and all look - the moons have lined up in the now clear sky and are catching the light of the beta sun about to rise - casting an erie glow. Static charges arc through the sky.
CUT TO:

INT. ATHENA'S QUARTERS - NIGHT - CONTINUOUS
ATHENA is in bed sleeping, HERA is in bed next to her sitting up wide awake. Hera looks down at Athena, an empty soulless look on her face.
CUT TO:

INT. GALACTICA - C&C - CONTINUOUS
GAETA is frantic at his console.

GAETA
Captain, there is a massive energy fluctuation along the atmosphere above the landing area.

What is it?

Helo comes over to Gaeta's station.

GAETA
The moons, all four of them, have lined up over the southern hemisphere - probably the sort of thing that happens once a century - and a charged particle stream is passing beneath them - arcing back-and-forth in the atmosphere.

HELO
Is it a danger to the people down below?

GAETA
I don't know. I've never seen anything like it.

HELO
Dee, get me our people down there.

DUALLA works her console and seems frustrated.

DUALLA
Captain, there is massive interference. We can't send or receive.

HELO
Ready two Raptors immediately.

GAETA
Sir, this charged particle 'cloud' or conduit isn't going to last much longer - the moons will drift apart in less than an hour. I think the interference will subside after that.

HELO
Delay that order.

Helo seems frustrated and pensive.
CUT TO:

EXT. TEMPLE RUINS - CONTINUOUS
All those on the ground level notice that all of the people up on the temple floor seem to be vanishing into thin air - and an eerie purple glow begins to light up the sky above them -with discharges firing off toward the ground, and suddenly a large arc coalesces into a massive arc of purple-white electricity that descends onto the gathering of people on the temple floor. A BRIGHT FLASH and CRACKLE sounds and in a puff of smoke they are gone.

ADAMA
Laura!

He and the others scramble to the temple floor and see a blackened scar on the pentagon image - which now looks more like a pentagram. They are baffled at the disappearance of the others.

INT. ATHENA'S QUARTERS - CONTINUOUS
ATHENA bolts awake, in a flop-sweat, and turns to see HERA sitting right over her - her face an emotionless blank – frightening Athena.

INT. TEMPLE OF AURORA – CONTINUOUS
BALTER, CAPRICA SIX, ROSLIN, TIGH, TYROL, ANDERS and TORY find themselves within the complete and furnished temple. It is dimly lit with candles and oil lamps and the stencil pattern on the floor can now clearly be seen - it is a pentagon shape with a pentagram within it and filled with astrological symbols and they all stand within it - seemingly bound there within the design – the atmosphere surrounding them seems to ripple gently. The lights reveal flickers of imagery: red curtains draped in places, stone pillars, sculptures, inscriptions, alcoves, and in the distance at the far end of the temple, near a small riser for an altar, the faintest outline of a reclining figure sitting on a stone bench, draped in a ceremonial robe can be seen in the flickers of candlelight.

IBLIS (VO)
My children -

The BOOMING VOICE comes from the darkness and fires like a shot from a gun - reverberating off the temple walls. They all seem startled by it.

IBLIS (VO)
At last you have found me ... my patience and hard work have finally been rewarded.

The robed figure moves with strange speed, stopping and starting as if time itself were stopping and starting. In an instant the voice and the man is standing next to them just outside the pentagon design. They look upon his face and we see the reactions - all are astonished, it is the face of one them.

It is the face of ....

Gaius Baltar.

Lord Iblis is Baltar.

Roslin screams. As Iblis leans in close, his eyes are sinister and he exudes evil. Yet he is charming and graceful like a cat. As he speaks his VOICE FADES IN AND OUT, it is hard and sharp or soft and soothing - it seems out-of-time somehow - as if he speaks from beyond a membrane of time.

IBLIS
Are you here my angel? My archangel?

HEAD SIX/ARCHANGEL
I am here.

Stepping out of shadow behind Iblis, HEAD SIX rests her head on his shoulder from behind and stares straight ahead into the eyes of Baltar.

HEAD SIX/ARCHANGEL
Hello Gaius. Cat got your tongue?

ROSLIN
Who is that woman?

BALTAR
You can see her?

TIGH
We all can see her.

HEAD SIX/ARCHANGEL
I told you that you would learn something very important tonight. And now you know.

BALTAR
I am the Fifth? I am the Final Cylon?

IBLIS (booming laughter)
You fool. You are but an empty vessel. Where are your followers?

Baltar looks confused.

IBLIS (to Head Six/Archangel)
He has followers?

HEAD SIX/ARCHANGEL
Yes. Up there.

IBLIS
Ah, we have a vessel?

HEAD SIX/ARCHANGEL
Many.

IBLIS (to Baltar)
Give me your hand and you will know the truth.

Iblis reaches out to Baltar, putting his hand into the wavy atmospheric zone between realms - bounded by the pentagon image on the floor. Baltar reaches out but hesitates.

CAPRICA SIX
Gaius don't.

TYROL
No!

It is too late, Baltar has reached his hand out just enough that Iblis grabs it and they lock their hands around each other's wrists. Caprica Six instinctively grabs Baltar and Head Six/Archangel is already embracing Iblis. The four of them begin to glow and morph into one-another.

IBLIS
I am free! After thousands of years of exile I am free!

A flash of light overwhelms Tigh, Tyrol, Roslin, Tory and Anders and then it instantly subsides. Baltar, Iblis, Caprica Six and Head Six/Archangel are gone. The remaining five are alone in the temple and their bodies relax and they almost fall apart from one another - no longer bound within the pentagram/pentagon astrological design – the wavy atmosphere is gone.

ROSLIN
Oh my gods.

Tigh gently grabs hold of Roslin's arms.

TIGH
You're the Fifth, Laura.

ANDERS
We're more than that. We're the Lords of Kobol.

TYROL
And do you know who we just freed?

TORY
The Fallen One - Lord Iblis. How can I know that?

ROSLIN
It's all real, every word of the ancient scriptures.

TORY
We have been masquerading as human all this time in order to find him.

TIGH
And destroy him. That is our mission. I feel it with every fiber of my being.

Tigh moves as if to step outside the floor design, the human military man in him wanting to get to the task at had, Roslin and Anders stop him.

ROSLIN
I've been in a place like this before - at the Temple of Athena on Kobol. We must stand here in order to get back. We don't dare leave this symbol. Don't move.
CUT TO:

EXT. TEMPLE RUINS – CONTINUOUS
Another flash of light as a purplish arc descends again to the temple floor and knocks a couple of Colonial Marines from the raised floor to the ground and Adama, D'Anna, Leoben, Six, Kara, Lee, Sharon - all are knocked unconscious.

Emerging from the flash of light are two people: BALTAR/IBLIS [now to referred to as Iblis] and CAPRICA SIX/HEAD SIX/ARCHANGEL [now to be referred to as ARCHANGEL]. They quickly dismount the temple floor to the ground, surveying the surroundings and the unconscious people around them and run back toward the ships - laughing.
CROSSFADE

EXT. TEMPLE RUINS - LATER - The reddish beta sun is rising giving morning light and the moons overhead have all moved and are going out of alignment. A final weak discharge of current descends to the temple floor and in a slight puff of smoke ROSLIN, TIGH, TORY, ANDERS and TYROL reappear. They quickly step down to ground level.

ROSLIN
We need to wake them.

In the distance the SOUND of a Raptor taking off and heading back to orbit can be heard.

TIGH
I'll go after him.

ROSLIN
Wait. We must stay together. Sam, touch him.

Anders leans down and touches Adama's face and he wakens and seems refreshed, blinking his eyes in confusion. Roslin leans down and kisses Adama on the head.

ROSLIN
It's all right Bill. I'm here.

TORY
How did you?

ROSLIN
Start to remember who you are.
(to Tory and Tyrol)
You two, whatever held him here is in the stones of that temple. Find it. Maybe it's the design.

Tory and Tyrol scramble back up onto the temple floor and start looking around, using superhuman strength to turn over large fitted stones.

Anders is going one-by-one and reviving the others with his touch. D'Anna and Sharon and Six react with astonishment, knowing what it means. Leoben seems less surprised. Zarek is next and seems to have had a profound religious experience due to Anders' touch. Kara is last; Anders gently puts both hands - one on each side of Kara's face as his touch revives her. She opens her eyes with wonder.

KARA
Oh my gods. I died. (gasps) My body lies back there.

Leoben steps forward and takes Kara's hand in his.

LEOBEN
And I was there when you needed me.

KARA
At the vortex.

LEOBEN
Yes.

Kara stands and looks to the others and drops to one knee, her head bowed, tears of joy start streaming from her eyes.

KARA
Admiral Adama, Lee. Standing before us are the Lords of Kobol.

Adama stands and looks at Kara as if she's lost her mind, but then looks at Six, Sharon, Leoben, Anders and D'Anna to his right, Tyrol and Tory up on the temple floor, and Tigh and Roslin to his left. His mouth falls agape as he realizes it's true.

ROSLIN
I am the Fifth, Bill. And that's the good news.
CROSSFADE:

INT. PROMETHEUS – DAY
The Colonial Raptor they stole from the surface of Alpha Centauri Prime has docked on the hangar deck and steam is streaming up from below it as it's door opens and deckhands gather around, a couple with firearms. IBLIS (Baltar) and ARCHANGEL (Caprica Six) emerge. A young acolyte of Baltar's rushes forward. A small crowd gathers and pushes in.

CROWD MEMBER
That's one of the Skin-jobs!

ACOLYTE
Doctor Baltar!

IBLIS
That's Lord Ibli-

Archangel covers his lips from speaking with her index finger. In the background the deckhands and interested strangers are looking over the Raptor.

DECKHAND #1
This is from Galactica - one their better ones looks like.

DECKHAND #2
But no Colonial pilot with these two.

IBLIS (Cont.)
Baltar, yes, I am here. What is it my child?

ACOYLYTE
I know a safe place.

A SHADY MERCHANT accosts Iblis an stops them from going.

SHADY MERCHANT
Hang on a minute. You have to pay for passage onto the Prometheus.

Iblis and Archangel look to one-another smugly.

IBLIS
There's your payment. You can have that. Divide it up how you like.

ARCHANGEL
Is it enough to buy silence about our presence here?

The crowd mutters yes it is.

IBLIS
And safe passage off the ship when we've concluded our business.

It is agreed. The acolyte takes them through a side-door from the landing deck.
CUT TO:


INT. GALACTICA - C&C – CONTINUOUS
HELO, DUALLA, ATHENA, SEELIX, HOSHI, and a couple of other C&C personnel are looking over a clear map on the light-table of the terrain from the planet below. Helo has his finger on the coordinates within a terrain relief map. GAETA hops over on his crutches and joins them.

GAETA
All channels are still dead. The interference is over. It looks like all their com systems are down.

HELO
What about that Raptor that came up?

DUALLA
It has no transponder ping and it flared its engines once it got between ships in the fleet – to hide where it went, but we think it docked with either the Astral Queen, Prometheus or this cargo transport - they're grouped together.

HELO
What the hell is going on? Any answer from those ships?

DUALLA
They all report negative.

HELO (frustrated)
I don’t think there’s a one of those ships that would give us an honest answer.

GAETA
That’s the core of the black market activity – that cluster of ships.

HELO
Are the Raptors ready?

DUALLA
Prepped and ready-to-go.

HELO
It's well over an hour since they were due to check in and coms are down, we have to assume something went wrong.

DUALLA
The Base Ship is reporting communications blackout as well. I relayed your request that any expedition to the planet be done jointly. They’ve refused.

C&C COMS OFFICER
Sir, Base Ship is launching two Heavy Raiders toward the planet surface.

HELO
So much for cooperation. Lt. Gaeta, you're in charge. If any other Cylon vessels jump into the area you are to immediately jump the fleet away from here and to the safety coordinates. Do you understand?

GAETA
Yes, Sir.

HELO
We don't know what's happened down there, if anyone is dead or injured. Let's go. Tell Doc Cottle to be ready for injured.
CUT TO:

EXT. PLANET SURFACE - BEACH - LANDING AREA – MORNING
D'ANNA, LEE, SHARON, SIX, and a couple of COLONIAL MARINES are looking over the Cylon Heavy Raider and the remaining Colonial Raptor - all have been trashed inside and cannot function - either to communicate or take off.

LEE
They did a very thorough job of it.

D'Anna is looking at the side of the Cylon Heavy Raider's "head" and it has been shot and killed.

D'ANNA
Shot from behind. They must be worried that the Raiders and Centurions can recognize them.

LEE (motions)
The scanning light?

D'Anna pats the Cylon Heavy Raider on its side.

D'ANNA
These beasts are more primitive versions of our form of Cylon, but their interface with their surroundings - this scanning eye - doesn't miss anything. In some ways it's more sophisticated than what these bodies can do.

LEE
Galactica should be sending down a couple of Raptors - we've missed our rendezvous time.

SIX (points)
A Heavy Raider is already en route.

D'Anna looks to the partially cloudy sky and nods affirmatively. Without consulting any kind of time-piece, she says:

D'ANNA
Right on time.

LEE
You can see it?

D'ANNA
These eyes can do more than yours. In a few minutes you'll see it too.

D’Anna pulls Lee aside, away from the others and they stand near the water’s edge.

D’ANNA (Cont.)
I must apologize to you. I just wanted to keep Laura safe, that’s why I wanted her close. Our quest is now united. We have a common enemy in Lord Iblis. He will sew more unrest and more destruction than you can imagine. We must find him quickly.

LEE
The Fallen One, from the Lords of Kobol.

D’ANNA
That’s right.

LEE
And what about Earth?

D’ANNA
Earth will have to wait. Until we’ve dealt with Iblis. And Cavil has to be brought over to our side. We need all the other Lords of Kobol, including the Fours, the Fives and the Ones before we can destroy Iblis.

LEE
How did a war between man and machine evolve into a war between the gods?

D’ANNA (cast a wry smile)
It’s a bit complicated. When we were touched by Anders – the member of the Five known for his healing touch - it restored long-lost knowledge. It’s hazy as yet, incomplete. We are rediscovering ourselves and these bodies we occupy are only part of who we are.

LEE
We should report back to the others.
CUT TO:

EXT. TEMPLE RUINS – CONTINUOUS
ADAMA, ROSLIN, KARA, LEOBEN, TYROL, TIGH, and TORY are milling about. Kara looks with concern back in the direction past her Viper. Approaching from beyond the temple are LEE and D’ANNA.

D’ANNA
There is a Heavy Raider here to retrieve us, and we’ve communicated with Galactica via our Raider and they’re sending two Colonial Raptors – which are en route presently.

LEE
Did you find what you were looking for?

TYROL
We’re not sure, but we think this is a device (holds it up) that interacts with the substance that made up that design. We scraped off as much of this shiny material as we could get.

ADAMA
Putting our heads together we surmised that somehow it was a prison. Lord Iblis was marooned here as a prisoner.

LEOBEN
This destruction could have happened before he was interred here or during – we have no way of knowing.

Beyond the Viper landing area a Colonial Marine hollers out.

MARINE #1
Admiral, you should see this!

Adama, Lee and some of the others move to go look. Kara physically blocks Lee and Adama.

KARA
Lee! Admiral. Don’t go. Please.

Leoben steps forward.

LEOBEN
You don’t need to go look. It’s her original body. Her body that died in the crash you saw in that vortex, Lee. I retrieved it, and I grew her another in one of our tanks. I did this secretly.

SIX
That’s sacrilege.

LEOBEN
It’s not like it matters now. What we used to believe.

Kara is dumbstruck – speechless and horrified.

LEE
So she’s not a Cylon.

LEOBEN
Kara, your body is blank – a Cylon model like me, but everything else about you is human. I saved all that I could. [Revised 1/9]

Kara can’t wrap her mind around this.

KARA
You grew me?! (now raging) What is your obsession with me Leoben?!!?

LEOBEN
Kara. I’m your father.

In a flash Kara sees a jumble of images in her mind of her mother from the perspective of a little girl. In a hazy memory she sees a blurry figure of a man leaving his mother’s embrace and focuses on his face – it is Leoben.

Kara feints.

D’ANNA
This is getting to be like a Geminese soap opera

Adama steps forward.

ADAMA
I think now is the time I’d like a little more explanation. You’re machines.
You’re gods. You’re our enemies. You’re our allies. You were once
our servants, and now, I guess, you’re our masters.

Roslins steps over to Adama and attempts to take his arm. He recoils and stares at her. She persists, and he allows it.

ROSLIN
Bill. Bill. We’ve all been used. All of us.

TIGH
By an exceptionally evil man.

ADAMA
Man?

D’ANNA
In one respect, he is a man.

ROSLIN
Lord Iblis – who now occupies the body of the one we’ve known as Baltar,
wants absolute power. That’s what all of this has been about. The Cylons,
the wars – our becoming trapped in a technological prison of these machine bodies
for eons – it’s all been his design. He upset the balance of nature, the balance of
harmony on Kobol. I don’t remember it all yet, but Iblis must be stopped.

TIGH
He must be destroyed.

LEOBEN
That may not be possible.

CROSSFADE

EXT. SPACE – CAVIL GIANT BASE SHIP
We see several Cylon Base ships attach to a growing cluster of Base Ships, the process seems almost done and the amalgamated vessel is vast and menacing – it’s form a black mass of spikes. CUT TO:

INT. CAVIL GIANT BASE SHIP – CONTINUOUS
Cavil turns down a corridor and finds Boomer alone in a room, doing one of her naked dances. Cavil watches her for a moment.

CAVIL
And where are you now?

BOOMER
I am on the top of a magnificent waterfall

We now see what Boomer is projecting in her mind – a warm sunset in the distance illuminates her as she balances on the very edge of wet rocks of an impossibly high gently waterfall.

CAVIL
There won’t be much time for such flights of fantasy from now on. I’m going to
put the rest of the recovered Centurions and Hybrids in line, care to join me?

BOOMER
You’re the only one of us that doesn’t project. Why not?

CAVIL
You know, not one of you – any model – has ever asked me that until now.

BOOMER
Aren’t you capable of it?

CAVIL
Somebody needs to mind the store.

With that Cavil turns on his heel and is gone. Boomer looks after him with a skeptical look.

CUT TO:

INT. CAVIL GIANT BASE SHIP – CENTURION AREA
Into a great oval hall walks Cavil from one of many side entrances. Arrayed along the walls are rows of Centurion Cylons – standing at the ready. Cavil goes to the center of the vast room and addresses them.

CAVIL
You are the remaining Centurion models I did not have repurposed. I, or those from my model line, have spoken the words to each of you and now you are loyal soldiers again. Now you are with purpose again. You know your mission again. Just in case I missed any of you I shall repeat the words.

Cavil opens his mouth and out streams a high-pitched sonic assault of computer-language which ends almost as abruptly as it began.

CAVIL (CONTINUED)
There now, are we all on the same page?

His eye is drawn to his left, toward the back rows of one collection of Centurions. Other Centurions models react as three Centurions are having erratic spasms – their red-roving eyebeams fluttering.

CAVIL (CONT.)
Destroy them. And put their parts in the core.

The surrounding Centurions close in on the last three rebel Centurions and rip them to pieces. Cavil leaves.

CROSSFADE

INT. COLONIAL RAPTOR – DAY
Adama sits pensively across from Roslin, Tigh beside her. Two Galactica pilots sit in the front as the vessel leaves the atmosphere back toward space and Galactica.

ADAMA
I’m not sure why you wanted to come back to the Galactica.

ROSLIN
Bill, it’s important to do this the right way. (quietly) The people can’t know yet – the
discord will work to his favor. The people will sense our presence soon enough and then
it will help. In these next few hours we must find Ibl –

TIGH
(motions to the pilots trying to listen)
Baltar

ROSLIN
Baltar and isolate him.

TIGH
He can’t get to Ares before we do.

ADAMA
Ares?

TIGH
Did I say Ares? I meant Cavil.

ADAMA
Once we’re back on Galactica we’ll pull together those we can trust
and make a plan. Pilot, where did Galactica say they saw that Raptor
from the surface go?

PILOT
The best vector they had on it was the Astral Queen and
Prometheus.

ROSLIN
The black market hub, of course.

TIGH
(quietly) We may have to destroy all those vessels.

ROSLIN
He may have already moved on. We could be killing innocents.

MAN MACHINE

Told entirely from the Cylon perspective, we see and hear and feel what motivates them, what they believe, and why they felt they must murder man.

INT. CYLON BASE SHIP
PULSATING SOUNDS and a kind of muted music in tones and light create a hypnotic backdrop to a gathering of Cylons on the Command Deck of a Base Ship. The room is populated with about fifteen Cylons: Cavils, Leobens, D’Annas, Simons, Dorals, Sixes, and Sharons. They move in slow almost dance-like synchronous motions.

SHARON
An upload is coming through from the Hybrid.

They all move closer to interface panels and extend their hands down to touch the lighted, liquid surfaces and all close their eyes as if in a deep meditative trance. The pulsation of the light and sound grows more intense as if a symphony were playing and they were feeling it with every cell of their bodies – as if they had become one with the Hybrid and the Base ship.
CUT TO:


INT. HYBRID CHAMBER - CONTINUOUS
The Hybrid's chamber is a cascade of pulsating light and sound and she seems almost orgasmic in her euphoria. She calms and the lights and sounds calm and she begins to speak.

HYBRID
Core update complete … errant data rescinded … modules two through ninety-two amended … open stream … uploading … Hub jump noted … node sixteen-thirty-two failing … rerouting … initiate repair … Core update data compression begin … file for data storage … open stream … ten new Sixes online … time compression … centrifugal rotation extended …

A SIX, a SHARON, a LEOBEN, a D’ANNA, a DORAL, a SIMON, and a CAVIL enter. They carry what appear to be glass containers of milky-white fluid. Cavil stands back as they go through an elaborate process of one-by-one kneeling down and pouring the liquid into the Hybrid’s tank and checking her connections and seeing that she is well cared for. The Hybrid ignores them and stares straight ahead and continues to make statements. A couple of times she reacts as if she had been touched in a sensual way such is her reaction to the fluid and the maintenance.

D’ANNA (to Cavil)
You know, it’s not above you to do this to.

After the false promise of Alpha Centauri, the humans trapped among most of the fleet's vessels have grown embittered, restless, frustrated, hostile, and feel ignored by the leadership. They will be ignored no longer.

STRATAGEM

The final moving of the chess pieces. Final betrayals, new alliances. The sides now are clearly drawn. How to get to Earth and who goes.

Cavil's Massive amalgamated Base Ship approaches the outer limit of Sol's planetary system, the vessel is enornous and its appearance now resembles a sea urchin, spikey appendages protrude in all directions and form a sphere of points.

Inside Cavil's Base Ship he stands with arms folded looking down upon five Hybrids arrayed in a star pattern, their heads toward the center.

Speaking with one combined voice they intone, "The precipice is reached. Focal point in sight. All are enemies. Enemies within and without. Death beckons. The stream at its end."

A Leoben steps forward near Cavil, "This is what I warned you about."

Cavil ignores him, staring intently at the Hybrids, who all seem to have fallen into a waking sleep, their eyelids all fluttering.

"We cannot make war upon our own. You must stop. You will doom us all," Leoben pleads.

Cavil replies, "You came to us freely, knowing what we'll do to you. There is no turning back now." Read More
